10 Psalms to Read When You Need Encouragement

April 28, 2026 • 377 views

The Psalms are the prayer book of the Bible. Written by people who experienced every human emotion — joy, grief, anger, fear, praise, despair — they speak to us across thousands of years with remarkable relevance.

When you do not know what to pray, pray the Psalms. When you need encouragement, let these ancient words wash over your soul.

1. Psalm 23 — When You Need Peace

"The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul."

2. Psalm 46 — When You Need Strength

"God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear."

3. Psalm 91 — When You Need Protection

"He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty."

4. Psalm 27 — When You Need Courage

"The Lord is my light and my salvation — whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life — of whom shall I be afraid?"

5. Psalm 34 — When You Are Brokenhearted

"The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit."

6. Psalm 37 — When You Need to Trust God's Timing

"Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him and he will do this."

7. Psalm 139 — When You Need to Know You Are Loved

"I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well."

8. Psalm 121 — When You Need Help

"I lift up my eyes to the mountains — where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth."

9. Psalm 103 — When You Need to Remember God's Goodness

"Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits — who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases."

10. Psalm 150 — When You Need to Praise

"Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord!"

We encourage you to read one Psalm each day this week. Let the words sink deep into your heart. And if you want to go deeper into the Psalms, consider picking up a devotional or study guide from our collection.
